Nintendo has reportedly decided to stop all repairs of the original Nintendo after 24 years of support, Agence France Presse reported on Friday. A spokesperson said that the company has decided to end support due to increasingly short supplies of replacement parts. The iconic game system was sold as the Nintendo Entertainment System in the US and Europe, and as the Famicom in Japan.

Nintendo's Ken Toyoda said that while the company is sad to turn its back on the NES, the company wanted its legions of loyal fans to focus on the Wii, currently the best selling next-generation console worldwide. Nexgenwars.com, a tracker of game console sales, says the Wii has shipped 12.26 million consoles, compared to 12.2 million for the Xbox 360 and nearly 5.08 million for the PS3.

Thankfully There's still other sites out there who at least still do Repairs on Old Systems. Here's a site for those who wish to still have it fixed if Nintendo wont do it anymore.

Its sad to see the support go, but eventually it had to happen. I like to imagine that there was an old man who sat by himself in the basement of Nintendo repairing all the original NES's, with his essentric tools. That old man must have been laid off. So sad. Now he is forced into retirement.

Don't buy an NES. Buy an FC Twin or Messiah NEX. The patent on the NES expired, so these are identical to the original with a few exceptions.

1. RCA outputs, no RF switch crap.
2. Support for Japanese Famicom carts and US carts.
3. The 72-pin connector is better. The old NES has issues with the internal 72-pin connector dying/corroding after a while, these newer redesigns feature a better 72-pin connector. (The 72-pin connector is what connects to the cartridge.)

So yeah, get one of those unless you are a die hard collector like me. Heck, I have a Messiah NEX and an original, I do most of my playing on the NEX. The newere machines run about $60 and even support wireless controllers.

I'm so glad my NES is still in good shape. I would be heartbroken if it didn't work anymore.
