GTA IV
Posted 11 months, 2 weeks ago by ThE BuTTon SmAsHeR

One of the most anticipated games for this year is Rockstar’s new installment in the ever-popular Grand Theft Auto series. The franchise’s growing popularity has really taken off since the third installment of the game hit store shelves. But every game has its shortcomings, and the GTA series is no different. Each game is surrounded in controversy and usually results in Rockstar receiving numerous threatening letters sent in by angry parents. But all the nasty letters, protesters, and delays couldn’t stand in the way of this gigantic title being eventually released.

By now we’ve all expected that Rockstar’s newest release would’ve already been churning away in our systems, just to hear about another delay. The original launch date Rockstar set was October of last year, but was changed as usual. I have a hard time believing any release date from Rockstar since they’re always changing them two or three times. Trying to keep up with their ever-changing time frames is like a dog chasing his tail, and I just won’t do it. But I keep on wondering what causes these game delays?

Rockstar stood up recently and pointed its finger in the direction of the PS3 console as the reason for the delay of GTA IV. Citing that technological issues within the PS3 were the main contributing factors in the being pushed-back to April 29th. Rockstar has assured us that all the problems have been ironed out and the game will make it into our homes on the April release date.

The delays were blamed on "technological problems," according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. At the time, there was no elaboration on what this meant but most observers guessed that it was due to programming issues related to the PS3.

Rockstar Games is now admitting to the fact that the PlayStation 3 was indeed one of the reasons why GTA IV was delayed. Jeronimo Barrera of Rockstar said, "It's really no surprise to anybody that the PS3 was definitely a contributing factor to that. Back then that was something we were taking into account. That's not to say there's anything wrong with the PS3 version. It's awesome. They're both [PS3 and Xbox 360] identical."

At least Rockstar took the time to fix the issues, they could've just as easily given us a game that was plagued with problems.....I guess they know it's quality not quantity....

Don't forget the other problem they had was making the game work on 360's without HD's since so much of the game is dependent on cached information. This isn't all Sony's fault.
