- Tony Hawk Is Getting A Makeover
- Posted 8 months, 3 weeks ago by ThE BuTTon SmAsHeR
My love for the Tony Hawk franchise has all but fizzled out in recent years. I don’t know whether it was the countless repetitive side games or the over the top guest characters from Jackass that repulsed me enough to see Tony in a different light. In any case the thrill was gone leaving me feeling a little dead inside. But just when I thought all hope was lost for the skating genre, EA Games released their own rendition of the extreme sport. Skate was a game that took most of us concrete junkies by surprise, dropping a solid title in our laps and walking away like nothing ever happened. I’m almost ashamed to say It, but it just about put the long running Tony Hawk franchise to shame. Sorry Tony but it’s true!
At any rate Tony Hawk is not an idiot. I mean the guy has the same athlete-entrepreneur status that Michael Jordan has, and it seems he’s realized the series has strayed from its roots. So it looks like Tony and Activision are going back to the drawing board for the next installment in this never-ending series. Tony is said to be working very closely with the developers to put the kick-flip back into a dying title.

I know we all hope for the best, I’ll just be expecting a little more than some extra side-games out of the “Tony Hawk Innovation Plan".

As a former THPS fan this really doesn't make me want to come back. Hasn't he been working with the dev team on the previous games? Isn't he a little responsible for getting lazy? He's the only game in town, that's what happens... Madden anyone? Neversoft will have to stop thinking what they can do to change the game just enough to warrant a new retail release and start thinking about MAJOR overhauls. Maybe losing the ability to get one or two million point combos the first time you set foot on a board. Personally, I don't think there is too much life left in the franchise. New pros and new spots are pretty much all they've added over the last three or four games. The nail the trick/grab/manual additions seem to me to be too little too late. The fact that EA Black Box can come up with something like skate. in their first attempt makes me wonder what they've got up their sleeves for the sequel in '09.
