Today, EA Sport's popular Madden franchise was dealt a severe blow to its development team. David Ortiz, the lead producer of the Madden series, is leaving Tiburon. The Tiburon development house, which creates all of EA’s football series, has soared to the top of the gaming charts due to the success of the Madden franchise. And thanks to the talent of Ortiz the series has securely planted it’s feet on the next-gen console systems of today.
Though there is no confirmed reason for Ortiz’s departure, there is speculation that he left due to family issues. An inside source reported that he grew tired of how Tiburon operated when it came to game development. EA has said that producer Phil Fraiser who worked on the PS2, GameCube and original Xbox versions of the game will now step into the role of lead producer, to pick up where Ortiz left off. Either way this is a sad moment for the virtual football fan who is expecting Madden 09 to look pretty and arrive anytime in the near future.

It's not the same David Ortiz who plays for Boston, or is it?
Holy crap. I wasn't aware that Big Papi worked for Tiburon.
