Burnin' the Midnight Oil

All great societies have their share of leaders. These heads represent the best and brightest that the society has to offer, and their personal experiences and characteristics shape the way that the society evolves and progresses. All nations have extensive systems of hierarchy. Gaming nation should be no different. Here now, who do you think should deserve a spot at the top of the gaming world? Post your suggestions on this page's board. Make a list, throw one or two names out, even suggest a name for the group itself if you like. There are obviously no right and wrong answers, but it may be pretty interesting to see where everyone is in agreement, and where everyone has a differing opinion. Maybe one of these guys has the right stuff. Who have been the most influential characters in gaming's relatively short history? Whose story is the most remarkable? Whose game has had the most impact? Suspend your disbelief, and forget that these are fictional characters. Should each gaming system have an equal number of members, or should their numbers be indicative of their success? Does it make Mario less influential because he was only ever on Nintendo, while Sonic was on both Nintendo and Sega? Will the Chief finally get to sit down? In a comfortable chair, no less? Post your responses here. At the least, it may open up a discussion or two. At best, the final compilation may show us where we've gone as gamers, and where our gaming is going to take us. Remember, you don't need a Y chromosome to be a titan of gaming.

I'd do it more like a Justice League/Avengers setup:

Mario - Field leader and heart of the team (Captain America)
Samus Aran - Futuristic tech hero (Iron Man)
Sonic the Hedgehog - Speedster and smartass (Flash)
Donkey Kong - The muscle (Hulk)
Ecco the Dolphin - Undersea specialist (Aquaman)
Lara Croft - Espionage and firearms expert (Black Widow)
Ryu Hayabusa - Hand to hand expert (Batman)
Link - Ancient weapons master and magic user (Black Knight)
Pac-Man - Wild scrapper prone to feral rages (Wolverine)
Frogger - Mascot (Gleek, sadly)

I think you would have to have a council that advises a strong military, like in the second two Matrix movies. I would put Princess Peach, Dr. Robotnik, Zelda, John Madden, Luigi (the smarter brother), and other similar, more intellectual characters on my council.

My military board would be the stuff of legend. Check out this line-up: Chief of Staff: Master Chief. Chief of the Air Force: Starfox. Chief of the Navy: Yoshi (that dinosaur can eat fish underwater!) Chief of the Army: Seamus. Head of my Intelligence: Sam Fisher.

This could work...
