Sleepytime at Gamervision: Where REM meets RAM
Posted About 1 year ago by theturk

I had a dream last night. I was reading my local paper, flipping through the pages casually, when I saw a two-page spread on the Gamervision website and some of the people that contribute to it. Each person got their own little write-up, and I remember there being several pictures of people at work: Joe was at a computer, Nikkita was at a desk, Sean was eating some sort of sandwich while seated in a chair.

I remember reading about them, and eventually searching for my name in the article. I found it near the end. All it read was “and there’s also the mysterious, as-of-yet-unidentified ‘the truk’”. That’s right. They misspelled my name in the newspaper in my dreams.

When I’m not writing, I spend my time being homeless. And sleeping. The government!

Those few times in my conscious life when I did get my name in the paper, my actual name had only a 50% chance of being spelled correctly, and now they can’t even get it right in my fantasy world?

I mean, these are my dreams! This is where I dreamt I had the Rocketeer jetpack. This is where I dreamt I had the ability to move things with my mind (I woke up still thinking it was real. Laying in bed, I attempted to move the remote control off of the nightstand. Needless to say, my cat didn’t know what to think). Hell, I once had a dream where I was able to push Les Claypool off of a cliff! Am I really getting to the point where my dreams are as depressing as real life? The truk? Come on!

High-larious! See, it’s funny because he’s wearing an unusual costume! Touche, Monsignor Claypool, touche!

Towards the end, there were several floating heads of the folks at Gamervision. In my floating head, above the grouping of letters that vaguely resembled my name, there was no headshot. Instead, a large question mark sat in the box. At the end of the article, I was referenced once more. The writer, in a curious mood, wrote “perhaps one day we can know the true identity of ‘the truk’”. Hmm. Interesting, I thought.

That last one wasn’t so bad. It kind of made me sound like a superhero. Elusive. Mysterious. All superheroes started out misunderstood. Perhaps more emotionally and less phonetically, but still. I can get by on this. The truk. Trucks are strong, dependable, they help people by delivering things. What’s wrong with being a truck? Or a truk? Looks like Kruk. John Kruk, the former first baseman for the Phillies. John. Lots of heroes have been named John. John Rambo. John Spartan. John McClane. Master Chief’s first name was John. Or perhaps even my hero, character actor John Turturro. Yea. John Truk. Maybe Freud wasn’t full of shit after all.

John and the truk, back in the saddle.
