A thought on the real 'Next' Gen
Posted 5 months, 2 weeks ago by TinyChinaDoll

Wii. I'm not going to argue whether Xbox360 or PS3 is better and more worth the money. I am going to tell you to go out and get a Wii if you havent.

Nintendo has again risen above all others in their own way with a unique system, and a rare endeavor focused on bringing all people together. Even their commercials have been centered on togetherness. In a sense, Nintendo has lost all battles but won the war.

Anyways, how can you resist your old-school mates Link, Samus, Mario and even Sonic? What Wii's lack in power, they make up for in functionality and innovation. And truly, every gamer can appreciate innovation.

Projected sales of Xbox360's have been steadily beating out PS3 so far; perhaps because of lack of games, perhaps because of prices. But Wii sales have skyrocketed above comparison: 20.13 million as of December 2006, globally! The simplicity and relative affordability hits you straight in the heart.

Quoted on Nintendo's system name decision:

"Wii sounds like 'we', which emphasizes that the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii."

Anyways, I'm a little tired of the constant rabble of Which system is Best. It seems like when you buy a next gen, you're also funding a war. Every person who comes to your pad has to give you their thoughts. So, who would ever chastise you for getting a Wii? 250$'s a good investment for hours of friendship gathered around bowling, tennis, racing and freaking out over NES downloadables (OMG I REMEMBER THAT GAME!), but also those moments by yourself rediscovering your love for Zelda games and fantasizing about what's under Samus' suit.

Keep fighting, Sony and Microsoft. By the end of 2010, I'm sure every gamer will have either an Xbox360 or a PS3. But they will ALL have a Wii.

I don't care about the Wii as much as I used to back when it was called the Revolution, but I do like how Nintendo often looks for a different way for people to play games than the old fashioned way. Just look at the DS. I've had it since it was released in 2004 and just today I looked at it and said "Damn, I'm playing a game without having to use actual buttons." lol Took me a long time but Nintendo did think outside of the box a lot. I wouldn't trade up my PS3 for a Wii but I would love to have a Wii. Loads of good titles that a lot of people don't really know about at all because they simply look at the games that are crappy third party ripoffs.

I have to agree with 00.19. My Wii collects dust. I mean yes I have one but I rarely use it. If it output at least 720p I might use it a little more.

The Wii has less good games than the PS3. There I said it.

Although the Wii is great, it's really sad how big of a phobia Nintendo has for the Internet. For God's sake, the Dreamcast almost had better on-line.

The Wii is the new charades.
A fun game all can play together.

I play my Wii any chance I get. My only complaint is some of their third party titles.

I would gladly trade the wii experience for the High definition graphics and processing power of the PS3 or the Xbox 360. The Wii has some great features and the controls are revolutionary, but have you actually had to use the Wiimote the way that you thought you would to have that emmersive game experience? Because I haven't. I feel that most of the games don't take full advantage of the motion tracking and the half-assedness of most of the moves is a huge let down.
Wii sports is fun and Metroid does a fantastic job with the FPS genre on the console, but I feel that the PS3 is going to be the system to beat. It has the complete package backwards compatability (with out needing 15 different controllers), motion sensing (the sixaxis controller will get better over time but does well enough now), HD gaming (a feature that Nintendo snubbed and scoffed at), and the interaction between the PS3 and the PSP is amazing. The ability to download and/or play games over the wifi from my PS3 to the PSP is a feature that Xbox and Nintendo will be hard pressed to beat. I sure wish that i could play Nintendo's Virtual Console games on my DS as easily as I can play the original Metal Gear Solid or Gran Tourismo on my PSP. Wii is not next gen, its too gimmicky and doesn't hold a candle to the features of the other two consoles, besides are we all so bored of pwning all of the actual gaming newbs that we have to get Grandma playing in order to win?

I'm with you TCD... gaming is about one thing above all others: fun. And the Wii is the only current-gen system that packs fun at every turn.

Wii. Meh. I hate waving my arms around like an idiot. I'll stick with my classic one-piece controller.
