Blu Ray comes out Victorious
Posted 5 months ago by TinyChinaDoll

In Tokyo today, it has been announced that Toshiba will be dropping out of the format wars and will no longer make or market HD formatted drives and discs. President Atsutoshi Nishida has mentioned that Warner Bros' move towards Blu Ray has made this format war a conceivable loss during a brief press conference in his company office.

Quoted,

"This was a very difficult decision to make ... but when we thought about the trouble we would cause to consumers and our partners, we decided it was not right for us to keep going with such a small presence,"

Shipments on HD-DVD players will be cut and eventually dropped by mid-march.

I'm certainly relieved that my Blu Ray discs are not all completely worthless now.

But wait-- What happens with Universal Studios, Paramount and Dreamworks?

This is great. The one thing that is holding me back from buying more Blu-ray discs is the whole download to PSP thing in the works. I don't want to buy all these discs only to find out that I need a new one to get a portable copy or whatever they are calling it. Boy I'm glad I chose Blu-ray!

It does seem that Toshiba dropped the HD early but in the long run we the consumer will not have as many useless DVD's.
