Doin' it for the lulz since 1984.

By day I'm a mild mannered Microsoft dev, but when the sun goes down... I transform into an indie game dev!

  • Mild mannered Microsoft dev eh? What's so mild mannered about you? One day I looked outside my window and saw you flying around. Not so mild if you ask me. But seriously, I'd like to know what you do there because I am very nosey.

Also I watched your gameplay videos of your game. Looks pretty neat. I love the idea of a high-score fps. You know, I'm a bit of a game developer myself. Yep, world renown!

  • FF going downhill since 7? Hmmm...

8 was pretty bad I agree. And 9 was a nice return to old style environments with great characters ( Vivi!) but was ruined by uninspired gameplay.

But X and XII were both phenomenal in their own ways (X had the most fleshed out characters in a FF game I think and XII did away with the "save the world" plot in favor of a more mature and plausible political theme with possibly the biggest explorable world yet in a Japanese styled RPG.

And VII is a bit overrated. It has its place in history for bringing the genre to the mainstream (along with possibly being one of the first big budget, multi disc, cut-scene filled titles paving the way for it to become the norm), but the story was uneven, Aeris' fate made no sense (Phoenix Down, anyone?), most of the characters were dull (the FF IV and VI cast had much more charm) and those looooong summons animations really hurt after a while.

I loved it, don't get me wrong but I think it being the first FF title for a lot of people along with the other feats I mentioned make it stand out more than it should.

But I agree with all your other "gone down hill" entries and you're playing the greatest action/adventure game ever made (Super Metroid) so thanks for the add :)

Oh and your game looks fun - didn't download it but saw the footage.
Just needs arms or something... feels like a floating head :)

  • I agree with you on GTA: SA. Vice City was essentially the last game where they were "just having fun". Once they added in all those mini-games in SA they just started too hard TRYING to make social commentary.

  • Yeah, that is one of a handful of glitches in the "groups" portion of the site. Fortunately, our web designers and coders just went from "working from home" to "in the office all week" status. So bugs will be fixed much faster. Keep letting me know when you find shit that's messed up, and I'll pass it along.
    How goes your game development?

  • Heh... yeah, I suppose I should pick one up. It's just that by the time I'm finished with my Wii, PS3, and 360, there's not a ton of time left for PC gaming...

  • You just did. I'll pass it along.

I heard Dave swung up your way. Good times?

  • Thanks for the add!

Will Xplore run on a Mac?

    Sean Sean Tue, 16 September 2008 10:52AM
  • What I saw was really, really fast, so don't worry about that. I didn't mind Secret Rings, though, but once I need to qualify it as "it's not so bad..." it's officially worse than it should be.

  • Hold some hope for Sonic, what I saw at E3 looked wicked awesome. Even the dumb Werehod levels looks alright!

  • Nice man, glad to hear you're working hard. I checked out the webpage, are you doing this all by yourself?

  • You better finish up Oblivion in time for Fallout 3.

  • Yes to more video reviews. Yes to more drinking games. Just let me crawl out from under PAX footage first....

  • oic, i just noticed i have a bunch of comments. Yes, I designed my avatar myself, its the current one for the game I'm working on (its kind of a placeholder symbol right now though, just like all other graphics related to the game I'm making).

Right now I'm working on a game codenamed Xplore. It is about exploration, where the goal is to get to places no one has been to before. I want it to king of play like Metroid/New-style Castlevania where you look around, and find stuff that lets you get to places you couldn't get to before. I'll be putting more up about it later!

I have an early version of it up for download right now, but I already know some things I want to change in it before the next version. (Ones that is up I'll probably hit this site up to get some people to try it uot and give feedback :D).

I'm using XNA! Too bad it has to be PC only though, because it needs to connect to a server.
