Ghostbusters Updates Galore
Posted About 1 year ago by Veggie Jackson

Sierra's upcoming Ghostbusters game for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 is looking better and better every day.  IGN's Australian team had a chance to sit down with a early playable version of the game and, despite some mildly disappointing news, things seem to be moving along quite nicely.

First off, the good news: The game will run in 1080p on both systems, and the screenshots indicate that this thing will be a graphical powerhouse, with tons of impressive lighting effects and destructible environments.  In addition, it has been confirmed that Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis wil be heavily involved in the game and any future sequels, and that the voices of Bill Murray, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson and even William Atherton (who fans will remember as EPA agent William Peck) will be included in the game. Furthermore, the game will take place squarely in the existing movie universe, and though it isn't officially "Ghostbusters 3", the story will be a continuation of the films'.  Pretty much every character from the movies will play important roles in the game, including Slimer, Stay-Puft, Gozer, the old librarian ghost and even Vigo the Carpathian, who will be voiced by a new actor after the passing of original actor Wilhelm von Homburg.

The unfortunate news is that campaign co-op play seems to be a no-show.  The feature was not included in the build that IGN got to play, and statements from Sierra like "we so much want the experience to be you joining the Ghostbusters for the first time, and all the other characters are so indelibly that character" and "you get to be a Ghostbusters but at the same time you get to experience and see the Ghostbusters interacting the way they are" seem to indicate that this will be a purely solo affair.  Sadly, Sigourney Weaver will not be reprising her role as Dana Barrett.  While Sierra claims that this is because they were unable to fit the character into the story, it seems more likely that Ms. Weaver chose not to participate.

While there was no specific mention of Rick Moranis reprising his role as Louis Tully, we can't imagine he's got too many better offers.

Wow, I can't believe that they got all the people they did for the voices. Even without Sigourney, it's pretty impressive.
