- Just How Much is GTA IV Ruling My Life?
- Posted 3 months ago by Veggie Jackson
Okay. So I’ve been playing GTA IV for about an hour today. Mostly side missions with bits of random mayhem and Euphoria experimentation thrown in for good measure. I was jumping on cars in line at a red light, and the last one was an ice cream truck. As I jumped on it, I noticed that the ice cream truck song started playing. About 30 seconds after this, I was randomly run over by a truck and killed. As the screen went all black and white and deathlike, I noticed that the ice cream music was still playing. If that wasn’t creepy enough, it kept playing through the load screen. Then, when I respawned, the music kept playing, causing me to think that something had glitched out. I played on for about 45 seconds and the music stopped. Happy that the glitch was resolved, I went about my mission. About 5 minutes later, the music came back. No ice cream truck was to be found anywhere in my vicinity, but there it was. I tried to ignore it, and in about 45 seconds, it faded away again. I finished my mission and went outside to have a cigarette. As I stood up, the music started again, even though the game was paused. I figured I’d restart once I got back inside. I got to my porch and sat down just in time to see the ice cream truck roll by.
See, I had basically forgotten that there was an outside world, and never thought that it might be an actual ice cream truck.
It’s getting bad.
P.S. – I swear by all that I hold holy that while I’m writing this, thinking “this game is taking over my life,” a SEPTA bus drove by with the huge GTA IV ad on the side. Make of that what you will.

... i haven't played yet...
Who needs the real world....
wow.
I can't go by a bus without thinking, " Hey I should steal that bus, honk the horn, fill it up with guys, and go take over some turf and crush the enemy!"
Dude, I've pretty much done the exact same thing! Only with a police car instead of an ice cream truck. It's really easy to forget the world exists outside when you've got one right in front of you on the TV screen.
My mission progress is so slow, because all I do is frig about. That's what Gta is :)
It does feel a bit like Driver Parallel Lines at times though. Al least Rockstar have refined the parts from other games that they've used. That's how games development makes progress. Inspire, steal, use but do one better.
Just then, my phone rang. Turns out my cousin got caught up with the wrong guys....
I honestly cannot drive to work through Germantown without initially thinking that I should just nail the pedestrians and see how the physics works.
I played GTA IV for a total combined time of 21 hours of the three day weekend. Im totally ashamed of myself but it was totally worth it!
