Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Getting Modified Fatalities
Posted 4 days ago by Veggie Jackson

When it was announced that the next iteration of Mortal Kombat would be a crossover with the DC Universe, home of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and, of course, Ambush Bug, fans of the MK series were puzzled and a bit worried about the fate of their hyper-violent fighting series.  Well, Midway has allayed at least some fears by alluding to the fact that the T-Rated game would include blood, but the big question remained: what about fatalities?  Surely DC wouldn’t allow their precious, family-friendly superheroes to be decapitated, disemboweled, and otherwise mutilated by a bunch of Outworld savages, nor would they let gee-shucks characters like Robin or Supergirl tear out enemies’ spines.

Series co-creator Ed Boon has some info on the subject.  In an interview with GameTap, Boon stated the following:

"We did acknowledge that we won't be able to do the same kinds of outrageous moves, like tearing someone's head off and the spine being attached to it…But I have every intention to keep finishers. You know, to let gamers do a really cool secret button combination and follow with a really outrageous finishing move to end the match. The names of these moves, and the level of violence we use, are to be determined. But it's certainly not a feature we plan on eliminating from the series."

Good to hear, but what does that mean?  Will we get non-violent fatalities?  Inury-alities?  Wound-alities?  I have a feeling that Mr. Boon will be doing a lot of explaining over the next few months, so we’ll keep you updated.  But please, no Animalities this time.  Seriously.

I saw some of the toned-down fatalities they used on the DS version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat and thought they were pretty hilarious, not gory, but still funny to watch.....

it might be cool to see some creative finishing moves if they feel like they can't go with the old standby of decapitation-with-spine-attached.
