Rumor - APB to Become GTA MMO?
Posted 3 days ago by Veggie Jackson

When APB was first announced about three years ago, I flipped out in excitement, thinking that it would be a re-envisioning of the classic arcade game that featured a steering wheel and gas pedal.  Sadly, about three months ago, I learned that it’s actually an urban cops-n-robbers MMO, and was severely disappointed by the news.  After letting the news set in, I actually became kind of interested in the title.  It basically sounds like a massively multiplayer online GTA, and what’s not to like about that?  The fact that Crackdown developer Realtime Worlds bought the IP back from Korean developer Webzen last month made me even more excited about the game.

Then I started playing GTA IV and, like most things in my life, I forgot all about it.

Well now there’s reason to get interested again.  According to Kotaku, a “credible industry source” has told Eurogamer that Realtime Worlds plans on selling the game to Rockstar, who would then re-brand the game as GTA Online.  No confirmation from Realtime Worlds or Rockstar as of yet, with Realtime Worlds stating that they bought the title to “give themselves some options.”

After two solid weeks of playing GTA IV online, I’m supremely confident that Rockstar knows how to deliver large scale online urban combat, and I’m hopeful that this deal goes through.
