Ubisoft Plans Fitness Training Game For DS
Posted 9 months, 3 weeks ago by Veggie Jackson

Sure, the upcoming Wii Fit may have the Wii balance board, but My Weight Loss Coach, a fitness training “game” for the DS, will have something much cooler (read: not cool).  A pedometer.  Yes, that’s right, with the special peripheral that will come with My Weight Loss Coach, players will be able to accurately (read: inaccurately) tell how far they’ve walked.  It’s a technology that’s usually reserved for cereal box toys, but Ubisoft Montreal, makers of Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry 2, has decided that you might need one of the most notoriously inaccurate measuring devices ever created.

Said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft, My Weight Loss Coach allows us to approach casual gamers with something innovative.”  He added, “My Weight Loss Coach not only allows users to take control of their physical well-being, but it does so in a fun and engaging manner.”

The title is certainly an attempt to capitalize on the presumed popularity of Wii Fit when it comes out, as well as an attempt by Ubisoft to fill out their new “My Coach” brand, but it sounds like it could be a decent way to get otherwise atrophied gamers out of the house for some needed exercise.  The title is being developed with the help of a fitness instructor and a nutritionist, so it may end up being somewhat legitimate.  We’ll see if its worth going outside for when it arrives later this year.
