As Mortal Kombat fans know, the last iteration of the series, MK Armageddon, marked the final chaptr in the MK saga.  Midway promised that the next title would completely reinvent the franchise, basically starting the story all over again.  This idea has lifelong fans of the games and the mythology (not to be confused with MK: Mythologies … uggffhh … sorry, threw up in my mouth a little) both excited and worried about what the future holds for Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, Scorpion and the gang.  

As you can see, series co-creator Ed Boon has a website up called Noob.com (“Boon” spelled backwards….whod’ve thunk that domain name was still available?) that shows a small MK logo as the “dot” in “dot com”.  Also on the site are a countdown clock that ticks off the seconds until April 17, pictures of animals, someone's eyes, and some seemingly random numbers.  Well, some intrepid sleuth decided to decode all the cryptic info on the page and came up with the following, equally cryptic conclusions:

• The first letters in the names of the animals spell out “ICE RAGE”
• The numbers, when converted to letters, spell out “FREE TOUCH KLOSE”

All cleared up now?  I thought so.  If this news is true, then this is the most exciting fighting game news to come down the pipe in some time.  Street Fighter 4 seems kind of irrelevant when you see a bombshell like this.  Man, and we thought 2007 had big news drops. Usually, a scoop like this is reserved for E3 or GDC, but Midway jumped the gun and revealed this bit of info on the down-low.  One wonders if Midway thought that no one would notice the thinly-veiled code, considering the sheer massiveness of the news.
