Xbox 360 To Adopt Motion Sensitive Controls
Posted 11 months, 1 weeks ago by Veggie Jackson

I guess it was only a matter of time.  In an effort to directly compete with the motion sensitive controllers for the Wii and PS3, the Saratoga, California company Gyration has been contracted to develop motion sensing technology for the Xbox 360.  Some of you (though not many, I’d wager) may recognize Gyration as the firm that developed prototypes for Nintendo’s Wii-mote as well as a motion sensitive remote for Microsoft’s Media Center.  The peripheral will be produced by Microsoft, rather than a third party company, and will more than likely be an attachment to existing 360 controllers.

There hasn’t been any mention of a release date, so it’s far too early to speculate on future games that will be designed to take advantage of the new technology, but it’s likely that retail games as well as Xbox Live Arcade titles will utilize the new feature.  We can only hope that the peripheral will work better than Sony’s less-than reliable Sixaxis controller.

This image is being circulated as the plans for the new peripheral.  Don’t believe the hype.  It is actually a design sheet for the Wiimote prototype from way back in 2001.

Now I'll run around my living room looking like twice the idiot as I did before. One hand for Wii, one for the 360.....
