Assassins Creed - First Impressions
Posted About 1 year ago by you_can_talk

I have heard and read a lot of reviews the past two or so days about how badly this game upset everyone.  And let me say this, for two years of hype, it did disappoint.  Ubisoft could have done so much more with the crowd mechanics and the fighting system that it would have made this game amazing.  So, I was very hesitant going to get this game today, even though I have been looking forward to it for about two months.

First off, I like the sci-fi twist.  (if you complain that I just spoiled something, you aren't a very good gamer.  The fact there is a sci-fi twist in this game has been known for about 2 - 3 weeks now.  Just browse google and you'd have found it)  It gives the story a little more flavor, and explains a lot of the tutorials, save system, and some of the lock-on mechanics (and things like that).  The only gripe I had with the sci-fi was the fact that you have to control your character when your in the present.  Come on, Ubisoft.  I know that you wanted to add more story by having me walk over to the girl and ask her a question, but.....do I really have to walk myself to bed every single time?!

Getting into the core of the game.  It's a cool story.  You are a ancient assassin that is part of this kickass order of assassins and you have your rank stripped from you.  The running/jumping system is really fun.  Although insanely easy to do.  You just hold LT and A and point Altair in the right direction.  Although, I love walking through the crowds, only to duck in an alley and scale a wall.  Then go bounding over roofs and making crazy ass jumps all over the place.  Only then to scale a huge tower so I can see the entire section of the city.

A lot of people are complaining that this game fell short, I think that is does exactly what I want it to do.  I want to run around pretending to be an assassin, jumping off roofs to stab a dude in the neck with a knife that is hidden on the side of my arm.  If I am going to spend $400 on a next gen system and $60 on a game, I want to do something that I could never do in real life.  And although this game isn't completely perfect, I think it delivers.

I agree with the reviews and give it a 7.5/10.  I have only put a few hours into it, so if anything mind-blowing happens I'll be sure to come here and change my score.  Overall, good game....could have used some more work and focus testing.

I was all riled up because someone was talking smack about Penny Arcade, but Jpage already said it all for me. Anything those guys say is all right by me, and I find it hard to disagree because every single goddamn person I know is playing and loving this game right now.

You claim "...it did disappoint." Then three paragraphs later you say "... I think it delivers." Sounds like a little bit of a flip flop to me.

I agree with your latter claim, though. This game delivers... the awesome. It plays like a perfect baby of Tenchu and Spider-Man. What's not to love?

I like how Gabe says the part about posting your gamertag and his is only 5,000 it really seems like he plays a lot of games?I'm not trying to bad mouth anyone but I was just expecting a gamer score of 30,000 or more.....well since I've gotten that out of the way I must say that from the few short hours I've played Assassins Creed it seems like it will turn out to be a Phenomenal title.I do agree though with tucking yourself in at night was strange....where's the night light?????

Gabe makes an awesome point. This game is fucking incredible, no questions asked. Sit down, get into it, and stop trying to beat it in one day. Gabe's pockets aren't lined enough for him to lie about a game in order to push sales. This game doesn't need his "nerdy" internet praise to sell. Ive been a gamer my whole life and I never read PA. The game is a 9 out of 10, and if you cant see that then you might as well rip your eyes out and eat em cause they arent doing you any good.

Whats interesting about IGN's review is that if you read the reader's comments below the article you can clearly see that someone at IGN must have been looked at cross-ways by someone at UbiSoft. Not one person agrees with them, and I for one, never trusted IGN to review anything. I cant wait to see what they think of GTA 4.

I am loving the game, I really am.

I don't think Gabe is that swayed, soul, because they have often not said a thing about games they do art for. They could remain silent - which would be enough. They were paid to draw a book for it and not to sell it.

Cefault, I used to be a big PA fan. But the guys aren't the upstanding citizens they used to be. You really think that Gabe's opinion isn't swayed by the big fat check in his pocket from the art he did for them for the Collector's Edition?

I would urge everybody to check out Gabes newspost on www.penny-arcade.com (on the first page). He discusses why reviewers are missing out on a large amount of the content and enjoyment by playing it with a deadline.
