- Another article that says Wii owner don't buy games
- Posted 2 months, 2 weeks ago by Zantagor
Kind of an interesting read, but in the end misses the point completely.
So, Wii owners buy less games than their 360/PS3 counterparts.
But again, this is an article that kind of miss the whole point.
They say that "Brawl" stopped selling after 4 weeks.
The same could be said to all platforms, shelf life of a game is usually that, 4 weeks.
But the bigger problem is that they never put the blame at the right place. Why blame Wii owner?
What about the 3rd party publishers?
1: LACK OF ADVERTISEMENT
If you want your game to sell, ADVERTISE! Zack & Wiki failed mostly because of this, sever lack of push behind the product. I'm ready to bet Okami will suffer the same.
2: SHOVELWARE SYNDROME
Ok, I'm one who think Nintendo should go back to the ruthless regulation they used to show back in the SNES days. 95% of the shovelware on the Wii are from 2 publishers. Those games waste shelve space tremendeously, swamping the otherwise other good games from being visible.
3: LACK OF EFFORTS
Seriously, and I'm looking toward Ubisoft mostly about this one. If you think 2-3 years old bad port of semi popular games will sell, you're dead wrong. 1st of all, most people interested in those game would already have them from their original publishing, and the rest will not look at them much because they tend to be very bad ports.
This is pretty much the same problem the Gamecube had, and most of the time it's tracked back to 3rd party publishers.
If you want to compete with Nintendo, you better be ready to put effort behind your titles. Halfassed titles don't cut it anymore. But that's the vicious circle now is it.
subpar game -> don't sell enough -> next game even more subar -> etc ;)

I actually got and bought Dragon Quest Swords for Wii last week, even though it got less than stellar reviews, and oddly enough, I love the game. (Even though it's frigging tiring for the arm ;) )
Brawl stopped selling after four weeks because everyone who wanted a copy had it already (except for those less fortunate people who can't find a Wii to buy). Other than that it is hit or miss when trying to find a solid third party Wii game to buy. I usually rent everything first when checking out a new Wii game and am less inclined to just jump in feet first, I save that for my 360 titles.
It is horrible. But if crap releases on Wii allow for Ubisoft to carry the Tom Clancy license like it has on the current gen, than I am more than willing to look the other way. I'm sorry, but Vegas and Vegas 2 are so damn good.
Unfortunately, I do get it.
Quick cash on Wii means funds for bigger projects on PS3/360. Horrible, but the truth.
I don't get it, either. Ubisoft releases some pretty damn good titles on the 360/PS3.
Seriously, the only ubisoft game I have isn't even a ubisoft developed game.
No More Heroes.... and even then, that was a pretty damn low budget game for them, and they didn't advertise it much either.(shame on them)
I'm so with you, I'm sick of third party crap on the Wii. It's giving the system a horrible reputation. And yeah, Ubisoft, you are a major offender.
