Following the lead of the very successful Capcom series, 1941: Counter Attack was released as the third installment of their 1940s collection. It's not immediately obvious that 1941 followed both 1942 and 1943 in order of release, but what's actually rather apparent upon playing a game is the persistence of the original game play concept.

The game revolves around a biplane you must navigate through a number of naval and aviation scenes toward your ultimate goal of defeating the enemy army. This top-to-bottom scroller provides plenty of fast-paced action for your trigger finger, and the pleasant changes in the power-up concept from the original two games in the series provides for different challenges and a larger number of ship varieties. Some of the more unique power-ups include extra wingmen who fly alongside you during the missions, and nuclear-type screen-clearing bombs. ~ Paul Biondich, All Game Guide
