3D Froggy Phonics attempts to teach phonics through a variety of word games with Frizzy the Frog acting as host. Three main sections include Learn, Watch and Play, the latter containing five separate games focusing on vowels and consonants, spelling, memory, painting (coloring and printing) and phonic combinations.

The Learn section teaches the alphabet by concentrating on words that begin with specific letters. When the mouse is moved over the speaker icon, the word is verbally pronounced with an accompanying short animation of an associated picture. Once familiar with the alphabet, players can move on to a game allowing matching of lower and uppercase letters. Matching all 26 letters correctly earns a reward of seeing Baby Frizzy transform into the adult Frizzy the Frog.

Watch, the second section, requires matching pictures at the bottom of the screen to the words on the board. When all six words are correctly matched, a video plays showing the words with matching vowel sounds. A total of ten videos cover the long and short versions of each vowel.

In the Play portion of the game, the painting program offers coloring and printing of the game characters. In the vowel and consonant module ("I Can Click"), timed rounds, which can be set in increments of ten seconds in a 30 to 90 second range, test knowledge using pop-up blocks and offers penalty and bonus items. The spelling module ("I Can Spell") is a race between participants to raise their elevators to a platform by spelling correctly -- letters placed incorrectly or wrong letters used raise the opponent's elevator.

The final two modules are ("I Can Follow") and ("I Can Read"). The former offers memory games using musical notes, balloons, coins or letters and resets after 13 correct matches in a row. The latter consists of a choice between testing on phonics or consonants/blends and verbs. The second option allows setting the difficulty of words between four and eight letters. Ten correct answers rewards the player with a performance by the Dancing Bugs and other animations seen in the Learn section. ~ Lisa Karen Savignano, All Game Guide
