I-Motion combined the Alone in the Dark series titles into one game: The Alone in the Dark Trilogy, a compilation featuring all three of the previous titles. In the first Alone in the Dark, you assume the persona of either detective Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood, niece to the recently deceased Jeremy Hartwood to explore the Derceto mansion to unearth its secrets and horrors. In Alone in the Dark 2, you again take on the role of detective Carnby to rescue a little girl Grace Saunders from gangsters and monsters in a mansion dubbed "Hell's Kitchen." In Alone in the Dark 3, you, again as super sleuth Edward Carnby departs from the mansion theme and heads out west to the Mojave desert and the ghost town, "Slaughter Gulch," where a film crew has mysteriously vanished.
