The Arthur's Reading Games CD is designed to introduce young children to the world of reading with the help of Arthur, designed by Marc Brown. The package includes three reading games (I Spy, Reading Race, or Let Me Write), two with varying levels of difficulty, represented as a stoplight. Green for the easy level. Yellow for medium. Red for hardest.
In I Spy, players choose from three scenes to find words appearing on cards within a zoo, park, or street scene. In the Reading Race, players control either Arthur or D.W. in a race through the streets to the ice cream store. Players must choose a picture to match the word on a card, then move the number of spaces equal to the letters in the word. Players can find shortcuts, shoot ahead, or fall back. The first player to the ice cream store gets to pick and eat their ice cream flavor by clicking on the cone. In Let Me Write, players are presented with a short sentence near the top of the screen to modify by clicking and dragging objects from the scene to the sentence.
The goal of the game is to help children develop basic reading skills, word recognition, sentence structure, reading comprehension, vocabulary, listening skills, and book basics. Players can immediately jump into the games on the disc, read the included story, Arthur's Reading Race, or have the story read to them. ~ Lisa Karen Savignano, All Game Guide
