It's time to wax the board, slap on some sunblock and grab those shades! California Games lets up to two players (with a ComLynx cable) compete for points in four events: Half Pipe Skateboard, Foot Bag, Surfing and BMX Bike Riding. All games are played from a horizontal perspective and are stand-alone events, meaning there aren't any computer opponents to face.
Points are awarded for certain tricks, such as flipping the bike during jumps in the BMX event, doing 360s in the air while surfing, and performing aerial turns while on the Half Pipe. The object of the Foot Bag event is to keep the bag as long as you can in the air, with bonus points awarded for head bounces or hitting the seagull flying overhead!
All events also have a time limit, so players must try to earn as many points as they can before the clock runs out. Make the top three scores in each event and you'll be able to enter your initials. Totally gnarly, dude! This game was included with all Deluxe Lynx packages retailing in 1989. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
