The "2008 Edition" of the culture-puzzle metropolitan management simulation City Life features the original 2005 game and a collection of additional content. Ten pre-designed maps have been added and a new feature allows players to import and play on real-life satellite maps. The addition of 60 new buildings brings the total up to 260.

Beneath the new features, scenarios, and options, the City Life's gameplay remains intact. Zone by zone, building by building, players lay out their growing cities to provide for the eight basic needs of citizens in six subculture groups. Different subcultures demand different sorts of shopping, housing, and entertainment facilities, and each subculture is diametrically opposed to another. The "Fringes" aren't comfortable in the "Suits" territory, for example, and areas that cater to "Radical Chics" should be placed away from areas zoned for "Blue Collar" homes and businesses.

Virtual urban planners are thus challenged to arrange their cities such that all citizens can get from their homes, to their workplaces, to their favorite stores, spending as little time possible in areas designed to appeal to their sub-cultural opposites. A series of pre-designed mission scenarios are available, or players can develop free-form cities in the game's sandbox mode. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide
