In Commando published by Elite your role, as a cracker of a soldier is to advance and infiltrate the enemy base. Ultimately the goal is conquering the headquarters of your enemies.
The game consist of vertical scrolling as you maneuver your character upward in an attempt to work your way deeper into the enemy base. The standard weapon is a machine gun that is activated by pressing the fire button on the joystick. Movement is controlled in the normal manner. Pressing the space will launch a grenade depending if you have run over a crate of them on the field.
As you progress through the game you will gain points for shooting enemy soldiers, rescuing soldiers, killing enemy leaders and destroying enemy head quarters.
Many obstacles in the game may be used as cover from enemy fire. Beware of rivers and trenches, if you fall in, you will lose a life. Each game you are afforded five lives. You may gain more lives after point milestones. ~ Ryan Glover, All Game Guide
