Curious George is having an interesting day. After going to the newspaper office with his friend Sammy, Sammy's bird Lola escapes, and George has to get it back. After he does, he and his friend are made cub reporters and each is sent out on a story.

The game is one long story. In between episodes, players must spell words for points. Also, at certain points in the story, players must complete stories by putting the missing words into the story where they best fit. The games are linked by bits of story, static with pictures by H. A. Rey. At the end of the story, players are shown how many words they learned and their final score.
