In the deepest corner of a danger-laden dungeon, a foul, fire-breathing dragon called Singe holds captive a beautiful princess named Daphne. In all of the kingdom, the only man daring enough to attempt her rescue is a clumsy knight known as Dirk. To save the fair princess, Dirk will demonstrate that sometimes patience and perseverance win out over insight and aptitude. First seen in arcades in the early '80s, Dragon's Lair is an elaborate, cinema-quality cartoon that calls on players to input quick directional commands and button presses at key moments in order to progress to each next scene.

The first release from Digital Leisure in the High Definition DVD format, this rendition of the 1983 classic is playable on any HD-DVD player (although the D-pad and button layout of an Xbox 360 controller may offer arcade veterans a more familiar, joystick-like input). The cinematic clips that tell the game's story between "twitch" inputs have been re-mastered from the original film, for high definition display at up to 1080p. Audio output is available in 5.1 Surround Sound. A "watch" feature allows players to view the entire game movie (which runs about 20 minutes) without worrying about the gameplay, and features a commentary track by original Dragon's Lair creators Rick Dyer and Don Bluth. ~ T.J.
