Emergency Room: Code Blue continues the series of Emergency Room titles that simulates life in a busy trauma center at Legacy Memorial Hospital. Designed in similar fashion to earlier games of the series, you are charged with handling numerous medical emergencies (35 unique cases) running the gamut from the mundane to the bizarre. Employing full motion video, the game features more than 50 actors from the Screen Actors Guild including Stephen Collins (credits include 7th Heaven and First Wives Club) and Marshall Bell (Total Recall and Starship Troopers.
Patterned after television programs like ER, Chicago Hope and Gideon's Crossing, as a physician in the ER you must prioritize patients' needs, make critical decisions about care and get to know them on a personal level as well. Care often encompasses interaction with family members or friends, as you are the conduit for good or bad news regarding the patients. Moral decisions enter the mix as you're faced with the dilemma of treating several patients simultaneously (which are life or death), dealing with criminals, weighing patient religious preferences against your duty to heal, recognizing child abuse and its legal ramifications and more.
As in previous titles, you have a full range of medical research at your fingertips via the hospital's computer where you determine relevant protocols, receive evaluations from the Medical Review Board, bone up on procedures and track patient histories. Research new cures, compare cases and interact with hospital staff as you strive for promotions that will enable you to advance from intern to second year ER resident and finally third year ER resident. The game offers three levels of difficulty (easy, normal and expert) and numerous gameplay options.
