Enlightenus flips the hidden object format on its ear by asking players to take items from their inventory and place them in a variety of scenes, rather than asking them to find concealed objects. Traditional adventure elements are also prevalent in Enlightenus, with gamers freely guiding Inspector Doubleleaf through rooms in a famous author's mansion, discovering and using environmental objects, and examining pages from various novels.
