The expansion pack to the Creative Assembly-developed strategy title, Medieval: Total War, Medieval: Total War -- Viking Invasion casts players back to the Dark Ages; the year 793AD, and a brutal Viking attack on a monastery in Northumbria in which the invading marauders make off with a precious artifact. Centered in and around the British Isles, the new campaign offers over 50 territories and eight playable factions -- Vikings, Irish, Northumbrians, Welsh, Picts, Mercians, Scots, and Saxons. Renowned for their fearsome raids and savage coastal attacks, the Vikings possess ships with superior speed, range, and weaponry. Castle sieges have also been updated, offering players the ability to develop upgrades such as boiling oil, burning projectiles, and the 'Organ Gun' (the latter available only in the original three campaigns) with which to defend strongholds.
Prior to each engagement, players are presented with an all-new deployment screen through which they can explore the enemy ranks and organize their own army; unit line-ups can be determined, and commanders and reinforcements inspected. Along with new units specific to the game's many factions, the title also boasts a new technology tree based upon the era, foregoing the advancements made in later years. In addition to the new Viking campaign, the original three campaigns have received minor enhancements, while also offering three new factions, the Aragonese, Hungarian, and Sicilians for players to command. ~ All Game Guide
