Video gaming's first female bounty hunter stalks the Nintendo DS in Metroid Prime: Hunters, a first-person shooter with wireless support for online competition. Six rival bounty hunters are pitted against the legendary Samus Aran, each trying to gain notoriety throughout the galaxy by acquiring a series of ancient relics spread across different planets. The single-player adventure mode involves a race to collect the relics while fending off the enemy bounty hunters' attempts to steal them. Classic Metroid elements such as puzzle solving and epic boss fights are featured, but the handheld game's focus is slanted toward the multiplayer game.

Seven different multiplayer modes are available in 20 distinct arenas, each supporting up to four combatants. All bounty hunters bring to battle a special weapon and an alternate form, such as Aran's ability to morph into a ball and spread bombs. Multiplayer game types include Battle, a timed deathmatch; Survival, where each hunter has a limited number of lives; Bounty, which involves finding and delivering a relic to a drop point; Defender, a king-of-the-hill variant; Prime Hunter, which pits three versus one; Capture, a capture-the-flag variant; and Nodes, a mode that has players searching for rings to reach a point target. Both local and Wi-Fi options are supported with single or multi-card play. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
