One of Konami's longest running sports franchises makes its U.S. debut in MLB Power Pros. Adopting the same "super-deformed" look that endears the series to Japanese audiences, the American version of Power Pros features MLB licensing for authentic players, teams, and stadiums. The game is otherwise an arcade-style take on the sport, with simplified controls and whimsical animations, from climbing catches and dramatic dives to funny facial expressions. The 162-game season is one of 12 different game types, with "Success Mode" being the most distinctive. Success Mode injects role-playing elements into America's pastime, as players guide a college athlete in his attempt to reach "the bigs." In addition to competing on the field, players must address such real-world issues as earning money, maintaining good grades, and dealing with social pressures. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
