Gamers can use their stylus and touch screen to re-create masterpieces from Van Gogh, Cezanne, and Pissarro in Paint by DS. Players choose from a variety of paints, brushes, and canvasses, and then set about putting their personal touches on 15 classic paintings. Paint by DS is a dedicated simulation, and as such, there is no way to erase mistakes, so gamers must be careful when applying brushstrokes and mixing colors. However, there are realistic ways to minimize coloring errors, and players can also abandon color altogether in favor of monochromatic pencil sketches. Each original painting is displayed in the upper screen as a guide, though aspiring artists are welcome to re-create the paintings in any way they please.
