Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is an odd conundrum as a video game. Strictly speaking, Forgotten Sands is not a movie-tie in, though it was released in the same month as the feature film Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Furthermore, Forgotten Sands abandons the vivid, colorful world created for 2008’s Prince of Persia reboot, and revisits the timeline of the last generation trilogy originated by Sands of Time in 2003. After seeing the movie and playing through the game, it’s clear that they do not share the same plotline or characters, meaning that Forgotten Sands is truly a standalone adventure. Sadly, it still falls prey to some of the pitfalls of tie-ins, such as technical issues and lackluster visuals.
