Roadsters for the Sega Dreamcast is a port of a title that first appeared on the Nintendo 64 and was also released for the PlayStation around the same time as the Dreamcast version. It features real cars from companies like Toyota and all of them have been super-charged and are ready to speed down the roads on your Dreamcast console!
When starting the game, you will have to choose from the lowest level of cars and play on the lower "type C" courses. Once you earn some cash, you can play on the track variations and buy better cars in divisions 1 & 2 (A & B). To get any money from a race, you must place in the top six, so you can't be a slouch. You can use your newfound wealth in multiple forms. It can be used to tweak performance on your car or to buy a new one altogether. You also need it for access to the higher levels.
Of course, a car wouldn't have its personality without a driver. Good thing Roadsters has eight of them for you use. How about the seductive Mei-Ling or maybe Linda? However, maybe a tough guy like Mr. Slim is what you want? Either way, you have your choice and you can even rename them if you wish. Each character will bring some personality and style to your car.
The courses are quite varied in their type. First, we have courses like Pleasantville, which is your standard, run-of-the-mill grassland with rolling hills and green landscapes to catch your eye. Then, there are waterfront areas where the briny blue stretches on for miles. You can also visit the mysterious Area 51, which features lots of secret areas and passageways for you to sneak through.
Each one of your cars will drive differently as well. Some have superior handling, but are low on the top-speed or vice-versa. In all of the cars you will have to master sliding techniques and gear shifting in order to take the checkered flag. No race will be easy and no racer will give in! ~ Glenn Wigmore, All Game Guide
