Safari Kongo is a 3D adventure game that tells the story of Safari John and Safari Sue, a couple whose relaxing vacation is rudely disrupted when a deluded ape (he believes he is the king of the jungle) abducts one of them, forcing the other to come to the rescue. At the beginning of the game, you choose which role, John or Sue, you want to play. You then attempt to save your loved one from the cage in which he/she has been incarcerated, by collecting keys throughout the level.

Once the final key has been obtained, the cage disappears and your loved one waits patiently for you to get within kissing distance, at which point time stands still and a swarm of red hearts encircles the two of you. It's only a short reprieve, though, because as soon as the next level begins, the loved one has gotten him/herself thrown into another cage.

Either the joystick or arrow keys are used to move about the 21 levels of your ruined vacation, through environments that include Desert, Volcano and Jungle. You must jump over, dodge or just outrun all manner of enlarged beasts -- ants, bees, monkeys -- who are under the spell of the charismatic would be Ape-King, and therefore up to no good. ~ Ted Smith, All Game Guide
