Street Sports Basketball is a heated battle between two rival teams that live in the not-so-fabulous part of town. All these kids do is hit the courts and participate in some round ball. Before the game starts, you can choose various options such as where the game will take place. There are four courts: the School's blacktop, an Alley, the Suburbs, and the City.
Once the place has been selected, one can choose between a human or computer-controlled rival. When the computer has been chosen as the other team, there are three challenge settings from which to choose: easy, intermediate, and tough. Once this challenge has been set, you'll have the option of entering a new team name or using the default.
To determine which team gets to pick kids first, a coin is flipped. Win the toss and choose first. Each character is a little different. While Butch has a mohawk and is the best all-around character, Radar excels in the paint and dunking situations. Julie is decent when the pressure is high, Melissa can move the ball, and Vic is a sharp shooter.
When the teams have been selected, it's time to hit the courts. Before starting, you can select the number of points required to win; this number can be from two to 100. Once this is decided, the ball is thrown into the air and the match commences.
While on the court, you can perform a series of dunks and assorted shots. Though some kids excel in precision shots, the characters are not perfect and will miss. When one of the team members misses a shot, grab the rebound before the other team. You're in control of the action, so when a member of your team has the ball, you can pass it to whomever's available.
When your opponent has the ball, you'll have control of the last character that touched the ball on offence. On defense, characters can block shots and steal the ball. Because this is street b-ball, there are no referees and no fouls. Characters can launch themselves into their rivals and knock the ball away. Be warned: the computer can do the same. Whoever reaches the points limit first is crowned the victor. Overcome your adversaries and become the Street Sports Basketball champion. ~ Matthew House, All Game Guide
