Description taken from Commodore 64/128 version of this game

Sun Star is a first-person shooter that involves moving around grid-ridden landscapes and demolishing enemies. Once the vessel warps into space, the action commences. Each mission and level is the same: eradicate the enemies while avoiding hazards.

Hazards are indicated on the radar located at the bottom of the screen and include both enemies and walls. When one of these objects is touched, the vessel's shields decrease. Walls are indicated with blue and yellow grids; the blue walls represent the level's boarder while the yellow ones represent various structures within the world.

Some walls contain moving spaces. In order to get into these rooms, one must wait and move when the time is right. Located in these rooms are more enemies to kill. Enemies are represented as white-colored rectangles that move in random patterns around the level. Once an attacker is in sight, you can fire missiles to eliminate the threat. A number of points will be awarded when an opponent has been vanquished.

While separate radar keeps track of where enemies and walls are, the vessel's current surroundings can be tracked from radar showing an overhead view of the action. There is also a third radar screen that represents how close enemies are to the vessel. A new mission starts once all enemies on a level have been defeated. ~ Matthew House, All Game Guide
