Based on four Japanese animated series from Tatsunoko Studios (the originators of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, which was imported to the U.S. and revamped to become Battle Of The Planets), Tatsunoko Fight unites heroes, heroines and villains from the shows in a Street Fighter-inspired mix-and-match battle. Story mode allows players to pick a character (followed immediately by a very nicely remastered playback of the opening titles of that character's respective TV series) and then proceeds through a sequence of battles with bad guys from Tatsunoko's various anime series. A different choice of hero will result in a different sequence of enemies. Controls, and even the more complicated "power moves," are kept fairly simple, and the game's graphics are rendered in a very crisp cel-animation style, complemented by the shows' original music and sound effects. Vs. mode allows two-player fights between any combination of characters, even heroes, and a Practice mode allows newcomers to sharpen their skills before heading into the ring. As fighting games go, it's simple stuff, but loaded with nostalgia and various tips of the hat to fans of these shows in particular, and old-school anime in general. ~ Earl Green, All Game Guide
