Four fictional "celebrity" contestants and four player characters join you in this interactive version of television's classic quiz game, The $100,000 Pyramid. Following the format of the 1985-88 TV show but without the talents of venerable host Dick Clark, the game provides questions from more than 700 categories and promises more than 20 hours of gameplay.
Gameplay offers both one- or two-player modes and party play where contestants' team up to solve verbal clues in the Basic Game to reach the Winner's Circle. As in the television show, each of the six rounds, or categories, contains seven words relating to the category. The Winner's Circle uses the same format but reverses the process -- words are given as clues and your partner must guess the category.
Advancement in single-player mode to the Winner's Circle is based on acquiring enough points with your "celebrity" partner. In two-player mode, the team (each human uses a "celebrity" partner) scoring the most correct answers in the Basic Game advances to the Winner's Circle. Party play is similar to two-player except human players, rather than the computer, give clues and the other team of two players acts as judges.
Virtual bonus prizes are awarded for guessing all seven words in a category correctly ($1,100) and in the Mystery 7 category (fantasy prizes). You can earn an extra $10,000 for beating the clock in the "Gamble for Ten Grand" bonus category. Gameplay progresses sequentially through four stages with pyramids worth 10, 25, 50 and 100 thousand dollars each. ~ Michael L. House, All Game Guide
