You've just been offered a chance to manage a national motorcycle racing team against 11 other teams from throughout the world. The 1991 World Cup of motorcycle racing is coming up and you have to prepare your team. Can you make the right managerial decisions that will lead your team to victory in the world competition?

The 1991 World Cup Knockout is a team-based motorcycle racing management game featuring 2D graphics. Emphasis is on rider selection and strategy, not action. There are a dozen teams from which to choose including the Australia Kangeroos, Czechoslovakia, Denmark Vikings, England Lions, Hungary Hunters, Italy Romers, Poland Panthers, Russia Bears, Sweden Select, New Zealand, U. S. A. Stars and a team known as the Rest of the World.

After selecting the national team of your choice, you manage it against other teams of the world through a series of heats. Your team consists of nine riders in total, seven active riders plus two replacements and you have the option to substitute any of the active riders with a replacement before each race begins.

The race in each heat features four motorcycle racers, two from each team. Team colors are predetermined and your riders are matched against all the riders on the opposing team during the course of two segments, or legs, each consisting of 15 heats that constitute the full event. After each heat, the first place rider wins three points for his team, second place two and third place one. Fourth place garners no points.

The individual points earned in each race are tallied up and added to the overall team score and rider points are tracked throughout the event. If any of your riders are performing poorly, you can replace him with either the sixth or seventh rider on your roster for any one heat. These "extra" rides are limited to one per player per segment. In this case, the replacement rider will also compete in his own heat as well as in the heat for the rider he replaced.

If your team is eliminated from the World Cup competition, the game shifts to an Inter Regional Cup Knockout where your team becomes one of four involved in a competition for the Regional Cup. Again, an event consists of 30 total heats broken into two segments. In the case of both competitions, before the heat begins, you're given the option to choose your two riders manually from the roster of seven. ~ Kyle Knight, All Game Guide
