Based on Tom Clancy's best-selling novel and subsequent film, The Hunt for Red October has you controlling the titular nuclear submarine through six side-scrolling stages. The seventh and final level is a platform-style sequence that involves disarming six bombs scattered across the submarine's weapon bays. The Red October comes equipped with horizontal- and vertical-firing torpedoes and missiles. Play involves carefully avoiding mines, enemy subs, and other hazards while making your way from left to right.
