The unofficial sequel to the N64 title Tom and Jerry in Fists of Furry, Tom and Jerry in War of the Whiskers is a four-player fighting game starring the famous cat and mouse. The supporting cast features other recognizable faces from the cartoon show, such as Spike, Tyke, Duckling, Butch, and Nibbles, as well as lesser-known characters, such as Robot Cat, Monster Jerry, Lion, and Eagle. Each character is capable of performing a punch, kick, or throw attack, as well as being able to block and jump. Littered about the 11 interactive levels are objects and weapons -- numbering 75 in all and running the gamut from forks to eggs to shovels -- that can be thrown at opponents. Consecutive attacks on an opponent will fill your Rage meter, which can double the offensive power of melee attacks for a period of time. Additional power-ups, such as shields and health, can be acquired, to protect the character and replenish vitality, respectively.
The themed environments cover a variety of locales, from a cruise ship to a scrap yard and even an old Western town. Each plays host to a unique interactive element. Some stages will see players accosted by a sea serpent, while others will force them to contend with tornadoes and avalanches. Four play modes are provided: single-player, Versus, Tag Team, and Team play. Completing the single player mode unlocks secret characters for future use, while the versus mode allows multiplayer action for up to four players, through the use of a multi-tap adaptor. ~ Gavin Frankle, All Game Guide
