Tony LaRussa's Ultimate Baseball is the first in the series of baseball simulations endorsed by major leage manager Tony LaRussa. Play against the computer or against a friend in either arcade or simulation mode. All the teams from the 1990 season are available with the real players and their stats, and expansion disks allow you to also play with a group of all-time great teams from 1901-1968 in a variety of classic stadiums such as Shibe Park and Ebbetts Field. A Fantasy Manager addition allows you to set up fantasy drafts and create teams filled with the greatest players of all time. Ever wanted to see if Whitey Ford could strike out Babe Ruth with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the ninth with the game on the line? Now you can.
You'll find every detail of real big league baseball in this game, from double steals to double switches. Want to make a pitching change? Better make sure you warmed up a reliever or two in the bullpen first. And don't go out to the mound to check on your pitcher too often, because Ultimate Baseball follows all the rules of big leage baseball and will force you to make a pitching change after the second visit. When you do go see how he's doing, your pitching coach will give you some advice to chew on before making your decision.
On offense you can pinch hit, pinch run, or ask your player to take a sacrifice. Best of all, they won't complain or ask to be traded.
This is baseball the way it was meant to be played on the PC. ~ Brad Cook, All Game Guide
