Featuring a cast of eight characters comprised entirely of flat-shaded polygons, Sega's Virtua Fighter is the industry's first 3D fighting game. Combatants, each specializing in a real-life form of martial arts, trade blows within an open ring across flat, outdoor environments. Movements are designed to be realistic, so there are no projectiles, weapons, or superhuman attacks. The deliberately paced action utilizes an eight-way joystick and three buttons: defense, punch, and kick. Gameplay involves battling all eight fighters, including a likeness of your own character, in a series of one-on-one matches spanning 30 seconds apiece. Defeat rivals twice, by reducing their health or knocking them out of the ring, to advance in the tournament. The final battle pits your skills against a mysterious female android named Dural. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
