First seen in the arcades, Wizard of Wor for the Atari 2600 puts you in charge of an elite squadron of Worriors whose mission it is to defeat the evil Wizard of Wor. Armed with a laser and a radar scanner, you enter a series of maze-like dungeons and engage the ferocious Worlings in a shoot-out.
There are three basic Worling species: blue Burwors, which appear at the beginning of each maze, yellow Garwors, which can turn invisible, and red Thorwors, which are very fast and tricky. Beginning in the second dungeon, you must face Worluck, the Wizard of Wor's winged beast. After dealing with this deadly denizen of the dark, the Wizard himself may make an appearance. He will teleport all over the maze, hurling lightning bolts at your Worrior.
In the two-player mode, you and a friend must journey through the dungeons at the same time. You can team up with your partner to destroy the evil Worlingss, or you can compete against and even shoot one another.
The object of Wizard of Wor is to shoot as many Worlings as possible while avoiding their firepower. The game is over only when all of your Worriors are dead. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
