WWF WrestleMania is a wrestling simulation that utilizes superstar wrestlers from the World Wrestling Federation. The Intercontinental Championship mode allows beginners to take on other wrestlers in an attempt to win the Intercontinental Championship Belt. According to Midway, this mode is easier for players who are new to the game. The object of this mode is to defeat all other wrestlers in matches. Matches are won by winning two of three falls.

The WWF Championship mode is for expert players who want a more difficult challenge. As in the Intercontinental mode, the object is to defeat all other wrestlers on your way to the WWF title belt. Again, to defeat other wrestlers, players must win two of three falls. Head to Head mode allows to human players to square off against each other in the virtual ring. The player who loses must insert additional coinage to continue. If the loser chooses not to continue, the winning player advances into the Intercontinental mode. Tag Team mode allows players to play cooperatively against computer opponents in an attempt to win the WWF Tag Team Title. Although only one player is supposed to be in the ring while his/her partner awaits the tag, match interference and "outside the ring" fights are allowed.

WWF WrestleMania features eight WWF superstars. They are the Undertaker, Bam Bam Bigelow, Razor Ramon, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Yokozuna, Lex Lugar, and Doink. Each player has a signature move which does excessive damage to opponents. ~ Anthony Baize, All Game Guide
