Unlike the other Zork games by Infocom, this game was produced by the company who inherited much of Infocom's property, Activision. And, unlike other Zork games, this game includes some sounds and graphics.
Zork Zero takes you back to the early days of the great underground empire. Your ancestor was a kitchen servant to the great lord Dimwit Flathead, the scion of the Flathead Family. A magician named Megaboz grew incensed against the great lord and destroyed him with a spell.
Now a curse has taken hold of the empire, and the current lord, Wurb Flathead, has sent a message through the empire, promising half the riches of his kingdom to anyone who can get rid of the curse. You are one such treasure seeker who has come to answer his call. But you have an advantage over the others. Long ago, when Megaboz destroyed Dimwit Flathead, a scrap of paper fell from his pocket. Your ancestor saved that scrap, and now it is yours. It may just hold the key to doing away with the current curse. ~ Lisa Karen Savignano, All Game Guide
