Light gun controllers allow gamers to simulate the physical action of firing a gun in the course of shooter gameplay. They are often brightly colored to avoid confusion with an actual weapon of any sort. Most light guns work by instantaneously sensing the data on a small, focused area of the display screen at which the controller is aimed when the trigger is pulled, in order to register the hit or miss of an onscreen target.
