Side-Scrolling Shooter
Style
Games of this style put the player in control of a character or vehicle that can move up or down the playfield. In some cases the scrolling is "forced," as the player's unit is constantly moved forward to face new threats or targets. Other side-scrolling shooters allow the unit to move back and forth at will. As in all shooters, there is an emphasis on ranged combat. Gameplay is typically two-dimensional, though some side-scrolling shooters feature 3D graphics.
